Systems integrators
The sensor vendor's install guide asks for a SPAN feed and leaves the rest to you. When the site wants a hardware guarantee that nothing travels back, a data diode fills that line, with a SKU and a published price for the BOM.
One-way data out, nothing back in. A hardware data diode moves monitoring data out of the control network with no return path to configure or misconfigure.

Vendor:A data diode is hardware that lets traffic move in one direction only, so data can leave the control network and nothing can come back in. It gives you visibility into an OT network without opening a path into it.
A data diode isn't a firewall. A firewall decides what to allow in both directions. A diode has no return path to configure. It isn't a network TAP either: a TAP copies the traffic on a link, while a diode guarantees that whatever it carries only travels one way.
Every diode here is made by Garland Technology. Each has been through our IT/OT lab and carries a published price, so you can put it straight onto a bill of materials.
Data diodes ensure controlled data flow out of OT environments. They let monitoring and operations data leave the plant while keeping the control network closed to anything coming back.
Data diodes enforce one-way communication — preventing remote cyberattacks while allowing safe data extraction for monitoring.
Unlike traditional network devices, data diodes physically block unauthorized inbound traffic — reducing the risk of malware or remote exploits.
A firewall is only as good as its rules. A diode enforces its boundary in hardware, so there is no rule that can be changed to let traffic back.

You've bought or been quoted an OT monitoring platform and need traffic for it without adding risk. A data diode gets the traffic to the sensor with no path back into the control network, which is usually the first thing an operations team asks about.
When an assessment ends in a recommendation for one-way monitoring at the boundary, the diode here gives you a part number and price to put in the report.
A data diode at Level 3 moves historian and sensor data upward with no return path.

The Garland Hardware Data Diode is $1,440. The price is published on the product page.
They do different jobs. A firewall filters traffic in both directions according to rules. A data diode allows one direction only, so there is no rule that can be misconfigured to let traffic back. Many sites use a firewall at the IT/OT boundary and a diode on the link that carries monitoring data out.
It takes two SPAN feeds from managed switches and passes them one way to two copper monitor ports, one per input. It doesn't aggregate them.
A data diode moves data one way out of the control network. A TAP copies the traffic on a link to a monitoring tool, and is the option when the switch is unmanaged and has no SPAN port. See our network TAPs.
The data diode takes optional DIN mounting hardware, listed as an accessory on the product page.
Garland ships from its own facility with its own tracking code. Ground shipping is free on most products, and some vendors offer overnight for orders placed before 12 PM ET. These products ship within the US only.
