What's the difference between a TAP and a Data Diode?
A network TAP sits inline on a link and copies every packet, in both directions, to your monitoring tool. The link keeps running exactly as before; the sensor sees 100% of the traffic instead of whatever a busy switch's SPAN port has left over.
A hardware data diode takes that copy one step further: the path to the monitor ports is physically one-way, so nothing plugged into the sensor side can ever send a packet back toward the control network.
